For who: Iowa parent of Deaf/Hard of Hearing and professionals who work with Deaf/Hard of Hearing children.
Description: Eight 1-hour Zoom sessions every Tuesday, March 2nd – April 20th, 7-8 pm
This 8-week course will provide an introduction to American Deaf Culture and the Deaf community. Participants will be able to learn about and answer common questions as well as gain an understanding of the most important aspects of the Deaf experience. Topics explored may include but are not limited to cultural norms, disability, vs. culture, power & oppression, and varying perspectives on the cultural debates happening with the Deaf and hearing communities.

Taryn has worked at Iowa School for the Deaf for 8 years, serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. She holds a BFA in Visual Media from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and a M.S. in Deaf Education from McDaniel College.
